Excellent!!! My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant. 100% authentic Italian. If your looking for real Home made organic Italian food, this is the place. We had the Crostoni for an appetizer, delicious! Real home made pasta dishes that where also delicious. And the amazing almond and flake cookies for desert, with a cappuccino. Claudia and Roberto are so nice and hospitable, with excellent service. We highly recommend this quaint Italian restaurant.

Delicious, fresh food and great service. Cozy place.  The appetizers were amazing. We got the Bresaola Rucola e Parmigiano and the special of the day (mozzarella imported from Italy the day before and wrapped in zucchini). For entrees, the cacio e pepe and pappardelle were delicious.  Finally, we got the Nutella pie for dessert which was light but tasted amazing! For all that food I wasn't as stuffed as I thought I would be! Will definitely be back.  It is a small place so may not be the best for large groups.

The name speaks volume!  I am a sucker for fresh pasta and had been meaning to check this place out for some time.  I was early for my dentist appointment around the corner, and the opportunity presented itself.I am so happy to have finally tasted their cuisine.  I had the Cacio e Pepe for lunch.  This dish is also something I had been craving since learning of it.  It was delicious, and extremely well presented (see image).I was very fortunate enough to be there while they were testing a pizza referred to as Pinsa Romana, which they gave me a slice of while awaiting my dish.  It was prepared with Scamorza and Prosciutto.  I gave it 2 thumbs up.The crew is very attentive and knowledgeable about the ingredients as well as the history of each. They gave me a breakdown on both dishes and made sure I was familiar with how salty Pecorino was. I am impressed! Can you tell? I am coming back and bringing my family along.  #welldone #nicework

This was my first time eating at From Scratch - it was really delicious and you could tell the ingredients were all fresh. The menu seems to change weekly and all items are made in house. We got the cheese plate sampler which was amazing along with the meatballs and fettuccini. Everything was great but it was extremely packed so the waiters had their hands full and service was a bit slow. It was okay, though because we were enjoying our dinner and all the food. Definitely would recommend for someone wanting to try a new Italian place with a small but delicious menu. Also it's BYOB so keep that in mind.

This is definitely my favorite Italian restaurant in town. If you are craving true high quality Italian food, this is the place to go. The restaurant has a great vibe to it and the service there is amazing. The owners of the restaurants cook and serve you the food. You get a true homey Italian experience. Everything in their menu is amazing, you can't go wrong with what you order. But the most amazing thing that you must try is their Nutella ricotta cake for dessert! It is truly extraordinary!!!

From Scratch has a perfect trifecta of fresh ingredients, old school Italian dishes, and competitive variety! From start to finish, every dish had a delicious, unique taste. The restaurant apparently cycles through different menus on a weekly basis, but that won't stop me from becoming a regular! The only thing I might take issue with is the seating. The space looks like a converted pizzeria, so seating can be limited (one of the reasons they almost exclusively take reservations). However, the food more than makes up for the somewhat lacking space. From Scratch has quickly become one of my favorite NJ restaurants, and I highly encourage everyone to give it a try!

We just had dinner at from scratch.Claudia and Roberto are some the best creative chefs in Bergen county! They make the best original Italian foods in Ridgewood. My wife and I just had some of the best bufala mozzarella wrapped with grilled zucchini! And tortelli zucca and salsiccia. These are some of the best typical regional Italian dishes!! Great job to Claudia and Roberto to bring to Ridgewood NJ. Some of the best Italian dishes!!!

We had a delicious dinner here tonight. Very fresh and put together beautifully. You can absolutely tell that the food was made with love...somehow...which i don't think i was able to say before about any other restaurant. Even the dessert, we had the Nutella ricotta pie which was a large piece and heavenly, Even better than it sounds. Icing on the cake was when the chef came over and asked us if we liked the food. Very nice touch and meant a lot. My only problem with the experience was that it was so hot. I don't know if it was because we were sitting next to the kitchen, or maybe the AC wasn't working. The rest of the experience was so good that it does outweigh that negative, but we would've liked to stay longer if the temperature was comfortable. Thanks for a great meal!!

A one of a kind authentic Italian family restaurant. The wife who has been cooking since she was a young child with her grandmother had a passion and integrity about her food and ingredients, and came to talk with us about the menu and the way she would prepare and cook our orders. The menu is small and delicious allowing them to cookand prepare everything freshly, including their pasta, and is regularly changing to give it a fresh and seasonal flavor. It definitely has the the feeling of being in Italy, with the natural flavors accentuated through artisanal preparation and cooking. From the Mozzarella wrapped in zucchini, to the Prosciutto, the hand made ravioli, or the Carbonara, the Cod in seasoned hand made breadcrumbs, over slivered potatoes, with a side of the most flavorful vegetables, or the Slightly warm Apple cake, and even to the cappuccino, everything was exceptional, nourishing, and felt like a truly delicious home cooked Italian meal.

Claudia hosted my company holiday luncheon in December and we had a fantastic time!  We arranged the afternoon to have a cooking class then lunch which worked out great.  Claudia taught us how to make gnocchi and each member of the group had a chance to roll out the dough and cut the pieces (about 20 people) all while Claudia was teaching us traditional Italian cooking.  We then sat down to enjoy our lunch which included our creation and addition plates.  Everything was delicious and we were beyond full when we left!  A meal and day of this caliber would cost a fortune in the city, but cost is extremely reasonable and she is willing to work with your budget and dietary restrictions.  Also, the restaurant in BYOB too!

I do not think it is possible to put in words how AMAZING this place is. I wish I could say try one dish over the next but it is absolutely impossible due to the fact that everything that comes out of this kitchen is heavenly. This food will have you talking about it for weeks. Do yourself a favor and come here with a huge appetite and order 2 appetizers 2 pastas 1 special 2 desserts and try the Italian soda OMG!!! This place is amazing. What a gem to have in my hometown. Native Italians from Rome truly making every single thing from scratch the way it should be! Unbelievably delicious food, creative menu, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Not your run of the mill spaghetti and meatballs and pizza place -- far better! I really appreciate too that they source fresh ingredients, organic and sustainable too from what I remember, and that the menu depends on the availability of these ingredients. I'm Italian too, and they really do justice to our shared heritage. I hope they are there forever! Bravo!

If you have been to Rome and are craving a meal that fully satisfies your craving for authentic Roman dishes, then this is your place! My wife and I fell in love with the Cacio de Pepe we had in Rome. We tried hard to find a restaurant in the tristate area that offered Cacio de Pepe. Our search ended when we found out about this place through friends. This is by far one of my favorite Italian restaurants in NJ. The food is very high quality and stays true to the essence of good Italian food, which emphasizes the use of high quality ingredients. I've tried several dishes and have never been dissatisfied. The Cacio de Pepe is perfectly done with a nice balance of Pepper and Pecorino Romano in a consistency that is not too liquid or too thick. Cacio de Pepe is a tough dish to perfect in terms of timing and ingredient ratios. Another dish that speaks to the authenticity of this place is the seasonal tripe dish (usually offered during winter). The tomato sauce in the tripe dish is simple but flavorful and the tripe is cooked just right as it is not overly chewy. Large portion seekers, look elsewhere! I read many of the negative reviews here speaking to the taste of the food being bland. Those negative reviews probably came from people who have palates that have been bastardized by the overconsumption of salt and sugar in their diet. Ignore the self proclaimed foodies making negative comments. I assume many have never even been to Italy and hence can't appreciate how authentic this food really is. So if you are looking for a taste of Rome and like good food that is not overly seasoned, then this is your place! If big portions and salty dishes are your thing, then you are better off going to places like the Olive Garden.

Best restaurant in Ridgewood! I've been so many times and always had great experiences so I thought it was time to write a review... everything on the menu is delicious & Claudia is an incredible chef. Definitely don't skip dessert here- I love the Nutella cake and the cornflake cookies! I was sad when they switched the menu so my favorite salads are only available for lunch, but there are many other great options for dinner. Definitely try From Scratch if you haven't yet-- but be sure to make a reservation!

Came back! Brought by parents, my sister & her bf this time. SO worth it! We came here to celebrate my sister's bday...1 word-Amazing. Claudia & Roberto were so kind & attentive. Claudia even made a cake especially for us, for my sister's bday, keeping in mind her allergies. The food was remarkable & left feeling extremely satisfied. My parents & I quickly felt at home exchanging many words in Italian w/the dynamic duoif you get the chance & wish to have a small taste of Italy w/out having to leave mainland, then come here!! Had dinner the other night with a friend and our meal was fabulous! We started off by sharing a smoked mozzarella cheese with prosciutto on crostini, it was served slightly warm, delicious!! For my entree I had a special, home made tortellini stuffed with radicchio & scamorza cheese, it was amazing, the radicchio almost tasted like tender shredded pieces of meat! Amazing!! I'm still thinking about it a week later. My friend had the Linguini al Pesto, it was light and fresh. To finish the meal we shared a piece of the flourless chocolate cake with nuts and cappuccinos.  I will definitely be back!!

The food at From Scratch is absolutely phenomenal. I'm not prone to superlatives but I've eaten there 6 or 7 times and every meal is better than the next. It's intimate and casual and feels like you're sitting in Chef Claudia's kitchen. The Pasta Cacio e Pepe is fantastic and not to be missed. The Scamorza cheese has the most perfect smoky flavor and is a perfect starter. It's BYOB so grab your best Barolo or a hearty Cabernet and make a reservation immediately. You won't regret it. It will immediately become your "neighborhood Italian place" and the menu you'll fantasize over while you're eating your grilled chicken breasts at lunch at your office.

This place never disappoints. Seating is cramped, but the food is delicious. The owners and chefs are a couple from Italy who are very attentive to diners. I highly recommend the homemade desserts, such as the apple cake and pear/chocolate cake. Unlike a lot of Italian American places, the dishes here are tasty without being overly rich/oily.

This place is a must.It's not just about the food, which is absolutely delicious, but the entire dining experience.You can't help but feel like you've been invited into Claudia and Roberto's home and enjoying the product of secret family recipes.I was visiting from Chicago and my best friend brought me here. MAKE RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE. We were lucky enough to nab 2 seats on a Saturday evening. And by nab I mean my friend called twice earlier Saturday afternoon, and I called once more while we were headed to a different restaurant. My friend hyped up From Scratch so much I just had to try asking for a table one more time, and as luck would have it they had an opening at the bar.If you are able to, sit at the bar. At the bar you'll be joined by Roberto and learn of his warm heart and if you're lucky he'll introduce you to his wife/chef, Claudia. The dynamic of their relationship is a wonderful one. You know that she's the boss, and Roberto knows it too. Super cute.And oh yeah, THE FOOD!Having vacationed in Rome last year, I can honestly say this is as close as I can get to the same dining experience short of crossing the ocean.I could have left having only had their bread and olive oil and still come away with the same high regards.That. Olive. Oil. SO GOOD. They sell bottles of them and I'd advise you to pick one up.For appetizer we had mozzarella di bufala wrapped in grilled zucchini on a bed of arugula. Delicious!For entrees, I had Paccheri Alla Gricia and my friend had Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe.Both dishes were simple yet SO flavorful.For dessert I had one of their Crispy Rose Cookies, ate it, got one more, then took 5 to-go (true story).It's a cross between an almond cookie, cereal, and pure joy.Thank you so much Roberto and Claudio for the wonderful experience.Also a big thank you to our wonderful waitress whose name escapes me, but you were a big part of our positive memories of from scratch too!I will definitely be coming back, and this time knowing I'll be amongst friends.

Went to From Scratch with my girl friend and it was pure delight.  I have traveled extensivle in Italy and this is TRUE Italian cuisine.   The sauce was perfection, not heavy with paste and I felt I was back in Italy again.  I had the eggplant parmigiana and my friend had the bronzino with an eggplant fritter.  I then had the cornflake cookie with espresso and she had their apple cinnamon cake , baked fresh every morning and it was fabulous.  Cannot wait to return.

My husband and I visited From Scratch last night and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The restaurant is on the smaller side (maybe 10-ish tables) and has a bright, cozy look to it. The servers were very nice and the restaurant itself was extremely clean. We started with the caprese, which had the most delicious imported mozzarella (you can definitely taste the difference) and ripe tomatoes lightly dressed in olive oil. My husband ordered the Italian lemon-like soda. It is pricey at $3.50, but it is well worth it. The soda was like a crisper, more natural-tasting Sprite.For our main course, I ordered the spaghetti with pepper and Parmesan cheese, and my husband ordered the chicken with prosciutto. The spaghetti was fresh and was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. My husband's chicken was tender and came with a lightly dressed salad.We were too stuffed for dessert, but they had some great options. We opted for two cappuccinos.Price-wise, I thought the restaurant was very reasonable, especially for the quality of ingredients. Most, if not all, dishes are under $20. One small complaint is that I felt the chairs were slightly uncomfortable, but that didn't take away too much from my overall experience.I can't wait to return!

My husband and I enjoyed an excellent weekday lunch while visiting the village. He grew up here in Ridgewood, and we were walking around downtown, him waxing nostalgic, when we got hungry....Though tucked into the middle of the block, the restaurant has an airy feeling with its light-filled, spare, modern design. A cozy dining room with ingredients on the wall, Italian radio in the background, and very friendly service helped warm up the ambience. In the middle of the day and week (Tuesday 1:30 pm), there was no wait.For lunch, we shared: the bresaola and the apple-walnut salad as a first coarse, and then the calamarata as a second course. All were superb, and that was plenty for the two of us. The server was very responsive about our requests for splitting the dishes and pacing the meal.Diners expecting Italian-American interpretations may be sorely disappointed. The salad was very lightly dressed and the pasta, lightly sauced. We loved everything. Flavors and textures shine through -- it's been a long time since we've had pasta arrive at the table truly al dente. I'm still trying to figure out how they make those "squid rings" without a seam...extrusion on site?We got a couple of the almond-cornflake cookies and a cappuccino to go. We would have loved to linger but were in a bit of a hurry, so we headed off with sweets in hand.Definitely looking forward to returning with extended family members.

Authentic as it comes! If anyone has been to Italy and wished they could sample the delicious food there then this place is for you!You definatley need reservations here, especially if you plan on coming for dinner. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side. It is all white and has an open kitchen area.Our table ordered the tagliere misto for an appetizer. Which is a meat and cheese plate. Wow! The meat would melt in your mouth. The plate also came with different jams.For my main I ordered the pasta al pesto. I have never tasted a pesto so fresh before. It wasn't oily like some pestos tend to be. Another diner got the spaghetti cacio e pepe, which she compared to a dish she had in Italy. They also had specials that night and one was a salmon lasagna. We were intrigued by it so we ordered one. It was remarkable! It had more of bechamel sauce instead of a red sauce. So delicious!.The owners were very friendly and you can tell they care a lot about the food they put out. It byo, remember to bring your favorite bottle.

And the signage, including a taped up flyer in the window, do not do this place justice. Hope they get their marketing up to snuff because I want to have many more meals here!

Love this place and the concept. Finally, some quality Italian food in Ridgewood made by people that actually know Italian food. Small but charming place with excellent food and service at a reasonable price. I will be back again for sure. Just a headsup - the menu has a pretty limited selection, but the Chef will prepare items normally found on the catering menu. I think having a limited selection of items executed well is far more important than having a mediocre assortment of "something for everyone".My wife and I shared the Misto appetizer which was very generous in size. She had pasta and I had the crusted salmon. I'm usually not a fan of salmon, but it was excellent.I can see Italia di Gusto here for many years to come if they keep this up.

First experience at this small, new Italian restaurant in downtown Ridgewood. Service was excellent, as was the food and value. We had the antipasto platter, calamari, eggplant parmigiana, salmon, meatloaf and ravioli with walnut sauce. All of the food was excellent quality and perfectly prepared. The chef came out to ensure that we were enjoying our dinner - a place where the team really cares about the customer's experience - we will most certainly be back !

Simple, clean, authentic Italian food.  We ordered two pasta dishes and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente in both.  We also ordered beef stew over polenta, and it was one of the best entrees I've had in some time.  The stew was rich, flavorful, and vibrant, while the beef was tender, but not quite fall-apart tender.  We would have had dessert but were too full.For what you get in authenticity (it's actively run by the owners/chefs who recently arrived from Rome, Italy), preparation (homemade, all in-house), and quality, the prices are very reasonable.  We went in the late evening and had a nice chat with the co-owner, Roberto who was kind enough to talk about the restaurant and his vision.  We will absolutely be back.  Also, it's BYOB.

Had a delicious meal at this adorable authentic Italian restaurant. We had the chicken scallopini and the fettuccini. Both delicious and sooooo fresh!!!  The chicken was melt in your mouth.  The portions aren't huge but they are just the right size. I left feeling very satisfied and knowing I had a fresh and good-for-you meal. The apple cake was outrageous. We will definitely be back.

Claudia and Roberto were both extremely hospitable and utterly charming, but if that's all there was, it wouldn't be enough to give an excellent review. The care that is taken in the cooking and serving process is also to be commended, my friend Betsey and I felt like we were transported to Italy, wanting to try some of everything, we agreed to share all plates.  We started off with the cheese and charcuterie platter, a stunning display and delicious to boot... that alone was enough to sustain the two of us. We then had a pear, arugula, walnut salad and was impressed again, delicate flavor and wonderfully balanced with 30 month aged parmesan and a mellow balsamic.  Then, but of course, a pasta dish that was truly divine in its simplicity...the way pasta should be. Spaghetti cooked perfectly al dente, with cherry tomatoes, toasted breadcrumbs, and was an exquisite work of art and done just right.   We then shared the salmon special, steamed with olives, cherry tomatoes and served with puntarelle dressed in simple oil and vinegar. Truly authentic and delicious. We were too full for dessert, but since I cannot pass up a sweet finish to my meal, we ordered cappuccino and they came with delectable almond and cornflake cookies. I ordered takeout portions of their torta di mele as well as apricot crostata. The torta di mele was my hands down favorite, light, airy, delicately flavored and scented with apples and spices. They also offer cooking classes on premise, fun and food for all!! I'll be back again in a week or two, to see what else Claudia is preparing.

Italy holds a special place in our hearts. My fiancé and I got engaged in Italy and when we came back we were searching for a true authentic Italian restaurant that reminded us of our memorable experience. We were in for a real treat when we walked into Italia di Gusto and had the opportunity to experience hands down the BEST Italian cuisine in New Jersey. Chef Claudia's passion resonates with her food. This is our favorite restaurant and we only hope that everyone takes the time to experience the wonderful food that Chef Claudia shares. She uses only the freshest ingredients and most are even imported from Italy. Also, the portions are absolutely perfect. Our absolute favorites are the Caprese with imported bufalo mozzarella, spaghetti cacio e pepe, apple cake and pear Belgium chocolate cake.  Chef Claudia, Roberto and the rest of the staff are so friendly and it is always a pleasure to dine with them. Thank you!

Just came back from dinner with my wife.  Terrific experience overall.  Definitely going back and highly recommend others to try out.Food was very high quality - highly recommend the meat & cheese board.  I had the special pasta, eggplant ragu dish ("Paccheri") which was exceptional.  Complementary poland spring water is a nice convenient touch.  Service was friendly and informative (almost educational in the sense that the owner took the time to explain what part of Italy the particular cuisine/ingredients are from).  Really impressed with the decor - very modern but retains warmth; you also get a view into the kitchen which is cool.  Didn't have room for dessert but we had the espresso which was also very good.  They also sell some of the ingredients they use in the kitchen - pasta, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, various jams, all from Italy it appeared - if interested.

OH MY! Yey, an outstanding meal in northern NJ!!!!!! Meat and cheese plate exceeds any NYC offering I have had. Veal saltimbocca tasted like I was in a small town in Umbria. Tiramisu was the best dessert I have had in years . Pasta was fine, and service (outside of when Claudia the chef was visiting the table) was spacey at best; but whatever, the other offerings overwhelmed the shortcomings. Bravo! I hope northern NJ service impatience can appreciate a bit of pain for exceptional food. Take a deep breath, and bring lots of good wine.

My husband and I recently had a delightful lunch at Italia di Gusto and it was nothing less then excellent. From the crispy authentic Italian bread to the delicious home made pesto, we devoured our carefully prepared, beautifully presented and tasty sandwiches that were as appetizing to the eye as they were to the palette. The pasta salad was perfectly seasoned and the Bruschette is authentic and vibrant with flavor. It is a staple in our choice of restaurants now and look forward to the new and exciting additions to the menu as well as the fun and ever-changing presentation of their dishes.

If you want to find "the real deal" of Italian quality food you have to go to Italia di Gusto in Ridgewood. After moving to America from Italy, I was finally able to enjoy those authentic flavors I grew up with. All the products that are sold and cooked in this amazing place are unique gems of the Italian heritage. For instance you can find the authentic Formaggio di Fossa still preserved in the caves of Montefeltro, as local farmers used to do hundreds of years ago. In addition to the amazing products, the recipes passionately cooked from Claudia are just like those that my grandma used to make. Going to Italia di Gusto I can guarantee you'll feel like you're in Italy! Thanks Claudia and Roberto for doing this!!!

On Fri we went to a new restaurant that opened up in Ridgewood one month ago Italia Di Gusto. The owners came from Rome two years ago & this was her dream. We really felt like we were in Italy from the cheeseboard & meats to the macaroni, salads & chicken  Milanese. Claudia is the head chef along with her husband who run's the front greeting the people. With prosciutto that are cheaper and tastier than the Whole Food's in town, and their baby sized mozzarella cheese (forgive me as I do not recall the actual term--bocochinni), this place is a clear winner. Albeit service could be a little slow, it's because they're literally meticulously making the food as you order it. You have won my heart over. You guys are the talk of the town. The food at the Italia di Gusto cafe is authentic Italian food, not tacky Italian-American food that people in this area have come to expect. The owners arrived from Rome a few years ago so they know what real Italian food is.The atmosphere at Italia di Gusto is fresh & clean. It feels like a mini Dean & Deluca cafe, which is a welcome addition to downtown Ridgewood. Not only do they offer amazing salads, light entrees and desserts, they also sell top-quality products from Italy. You can even go in and buy amazing prosciutto or fresh mozzarella by the pound. The owner said she also has a local catering business called From Scratch which offers home delivery of meals and also does larger parties.It's so nice to have a new Italian cafe in town with great food and friendly people!
